Work at OPG

The Office of the Public Guardian works to protect the rights and interests of adults with impairments and impaired capacity, and children and young people in care.

If you want to know that you’re making a difference in the lives of some of Queensland’s most vulnerable children and adults, a career at the Office of the Public Guardian could be right for you.

Our focus is on advocating for the human rights of the children, young people and adults we work with every day.

Our Guardians work for our adult guardianship clients, advocate for their rights, access to services, independence and choice as part of a supported-decision making model. Find out more about being a Guardian.

Our Community Visitors (CVs) visit children and young people in care and adults in visitable sites and advocate for their rights, access to services and, where appropriate, their independence and choice. Find out more about being a Community Visitor.

Our Legal Officers can act as appointed decision makers for adults with impaired decision-making capacity, can advocate for children and young people in the child protection system, and provide legal advice and assistance to the Public Guardian (and delegates). Find out more about being a Legal Officer.

Our Investigators investigate allegations of abuse, neglect and exploitation related to the conduct of decision makers of an adult with impaired decision making capacity. Find out more about being an Investigator.

We also offer a variety of other career options, and vacancies which are advertised on SmartJobs as they become available. Opportunities can include:

  • Policy and practice
