    We are committed to providing timely and accurate information to the media while respecting the privacy and rights of the individuals we support.

    How to contact us

    Send your media enquiries to media@publicguardian.qld.gov.au.

    Requesting interviews or written statements

    Journalists can request an interview with a spokesperson from the Office of the Public Guardian. If an interview is not possible, we may be able to provide a written statement instead.

    When contacting us, please include:

    • Your full name
    • The media organisation you work for
    • Your contact details (phone number and email address)
    • Your publishing deadline
    • A clear description of the information you’re seeking

    Providing these details helps us respond to your enquiry efficiently.

    • The role and responsibilities of the Office of the Public Guardian.
    • General information about guardianship, advocacy, and related services.

    What we cannot comment on:

    Due to privacy, confidentiality, and legal requirements, we cannot provide comments on:

    • Specific matters involving adults under our guardianship.
    • Details of investigations into allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of adults with impaired decision-making ability, unless the information is already part of the public record (e.g., court documents) or in the public interest.

    How to access information

    Under the Right to Information Act 2009, media organisations can access non-personal information held by government agencies.

    Ways to access information:

    • Publication scheme: A range of information is proactively published on our website.
    • Disclosure log: View documents released in response to formal Right to Information (RTI) applications.
    • Informal requests: Request access to information without submitting a formal RTI application.
    • Formal Applications: Submit a formal RTI application for access to specific information.
