What situations can OPG investigate?

Generally we can investigate allegations of neglect, exploitation or abuse (including financial abuse) if an adult:

• is ‘domiciled’ in Queensland (this means they either live in Queensland or maintain a permanent address in Queensland) and
• does NOT have capacity to make the decisions in question.

We decide to investigate based on information from our initial conversation with you and the request form you submit. If you need to report abuse, read our reporting process page.

Remember, we don’t have the power to investigate allegations of abuse against people with decision-making capacity. In this scenario other agencies can offer support and advice.
