Australian Children’s Commissioners and Guardians support for the Uluru statement

Queensland’s Public Guardian has joined with Australian Children’s Commissioners, Guardians and Advocates in support of the full implementation of the Uluru Statement of the Heart.

As a strongly human-rights focused agency, OPG champions the rights of children and young people across Queensland, particularly those who are marginalised or made vulnerable by systems over which they have no control.

Our work with children and young people in out of home care and youth detention in particular – where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children continue to be over-represented – means we see the impact of this marginalisation daily.

The Uluru Statement of the Heart is an invitation and a call to action which urges Australia to take concrete steps to address the ongoing impacts of colonisation through three channels: Voice, Treaty, Truth.
